RIC Sweeps Bridgewater State

Providence, R.I.--Senior second baseman Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) went a combined 6-for-8 with five runs scored, two doubles, a triple and three RBI as Rhode Island College swept Bridgewater State in a non-conference doubleheader played at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Rhode Island College (17-7)
Bridgewater State (14-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• A lone run in the first from the Bears never threatened RIC as Simmons got the hosts started in the third inning and took the lead, 2-1, with an RBI sacrifice bunt from senior center fielder Sophia Crudale (Cranston, R.I.).

• The duo also started a three-run fifth frame for the Anchorwomen, and freshman designated hitter Lily Bell (Coventry, R.I.) added on with an RBI single to make it, 5-1, in RIC's favor.

• RIC pushed across three more runs in the bottom of the sixth for insurance, as Crudale accounted for a pair of runs in the final stanza. She went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI in the opener.

• Bell went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.

• Freshman pitcher Mia Crudale (Cranston, R.I.) notched her 10th win of the season (10-1) as she struck out seven in a complete game effort.

GAME TWO
• Sophomore shortstop Joey Meyer (South Milwaukee, Wis.) led the Anchorwomen's scoring off with a sacrifice fly as the hosts led, 2-0, after the first inning.

• A double from Simmons in the second brought in junior catcher Sylvia Dempsey (Shrewsbury, Mass.), who also notched a pair of RBI in the third, to give RIC a 5-0 advantage.

• The barrage of runs came and ended in the fourth as the Anchorwomen scored seven runs to close out the Bears in the fifth via the eight-run rule.

• Simmons went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI and fell just a home run short of the cyle.

• Junior pitcher Ashleigh von der Linden (Stratham, N.H.) went five innings and allowed just two hits for the shutout win (3-2).
