Jontai Williams begins his first season as an assistant women's basketball coach at Rhode Island College.
“I’m really excited to have Jontai join our program!” Head Women’s Basketball Coach Jenna Cosgrove said. “Hearing the way two of our alumni praised him makes me certain he’ll bring something special. His energy is extremely contagious and our players are going to feel that every day. Beyond being a great former player, he’s an even better person, and I’m excited for our student-athletes to elevate their game by learning and growing alongside him.”
“I’m very excited and grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Cosgrove’s staff at Rhode Island College,” Williams said. “From the moment she has taken the helm, she’s built a program grounded in excellence, discipline and a winning mindset. The culture she’s created is one where players and coaches are empowered to grow, compete and strive for greatness every single day. Being part of that kind of environment is something I greatly appreciate. I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn from her leadership, contribute to the continued success of this program and pour everything I have into helping RIC Women’s Basketball reach and achieve even greater heights.”
With a diverse coaching background across prep school, collegiate and middle school, Williams brings a well-rounded and dynamic approach to player development and team success.
He joins the RIC staff after most recently serving as the head assistant coach for Rocky Hill Country Day School’s Prep Boys Basketball Program, where he played a key role in in-game strategy, team conditioning and post-game analysis.
His previous coaching roles include a graduate assistant coach stint at Johnson & Wales University, where he worked closely with student-athletes on skill development and practice execution and as the head coach at Moses Brown Middle School, where he led the team to a championship win at the Wheeler School Boys Tournament.
A former collegiate student-athlete, Williams played four years at Saint Michael’s where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in political science and served as team captain during his senior season.
He later continued his playing career at Johnson & Wales University where he obtained his MBA degree, while also representing student-athletes on the Student Athletic Council.
Williams’ combines leadership, mentorship and technical expertise to create a winning culture that supports both personal and athletic growth.
