Cam Sylvia begins his first year as the head women's swimming coach. He also serves as RIC's coordinator of aquatics and spent the 2024-25 campaign as an assistant women's swimming coach.
Sylvia started his journey at Springfield College, where a career-ending injury shifted his focus to coaching. Despite the setback, he had a huge impact on the team's culture. Working alongside former Head Coach John Taffe and current Head Coach Howard Hinds, Cam brought an infectious energy and positivity to every practice, making the experience more enjoyable and helping to strengthen the team’s bond. His contributions played a key role in leading the Pride back to the NCAA Div. III National Championships for the first time in years. Five swimmers qualified, and one earned All-American honors with a seventh place finish in the 50 freestyle.
After his time at Springfield College, Cam took on the role of head coach at Western New England for a season. He helped guide the team to six top-five finishes at the Little East Championship, including two runner-up finishes. Every swimmer saw significant time drops and achieved season-best performances.
In his first year at Rhode Island College, Cam helped guide the team to an impressive showing at the conference championship. The Anchorwomen secured four top-eight finishes, including a first, second and third place result. Of the 33 events entered, 31 were season-best times, and 26 were lifetime bests, highlighting the team’s remarkable progress and commitment throughout the season.
“As head coach, I’m excited to build a program at Rhode Island College that is centered on growth, resilience, and purpose. I look forward to creating a supportive environment where every swimmer is empowered to reach their full potential, both in and out of the pool. I aim to foster a culture of hard work, accountability and enjoyment, helping student-athletes push beyond limits and support one another. I’m eager to help shape a strong, united team and write the next chapter of RIC Swimming together.”
