Women's Swimming Competes at Blue Jay Pentathlon

Hartford, Conn.-- The Rhode Island College women's swimming team competed at the Blue Jay Pentathlon hosted by the University of Saint Joseph on Friday afternoon.

THE BASICS
• It was an individual meet with no team scoring. Six teams competed at the meet.

HOW IT HAPPENEND
• Freshman Abigayl Dion (Cumberland, RI), Reegan Camire (Rochester, NH), Jasmine Cooper (Belchertown, MA) and Hillevi Esquilin (North Kingstown, RI) placed third (1:57.71) in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

• Esquilin registered a second place finish (1:10.64) in the 100-yard butterfly, fourth as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay and sixth as part of the 200-yard medley relay. She also finished fourth in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.78) and the 100-yard IM (1:11.59). Esquilin placed fifth (1:01.33) in the 100-yard freestyle and seventh (1:23.41) in the 100-yard breaststroke.

• Esquilin finished fourth overall in the pentathlon and her times qualified her for the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships in the 100-yard back, 100-yard butterfly and the 100 individual medley.

• Dion placed fourth as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay, sixth as part of the 200-yard medley relay, seventh (1:12.94) in the 100-yard butterfly, 13th (1:15.68) in the 100-yard backstroke, 15th (1:06.70) in the 100-yard freestyle and 17th (1:29.89) in the 100-yard breaststroke.

• Dion finished ninth overall in the pentathlon.

• Camire also finished fourth (4:44.79) in the 400-yard freestyle relay, sixth (2:27.08) as part of the 200-yard medley relay, 22nd (1:20.38) in the 100-yard backstroke and freestyle, 30th (1:29.00) and 35th (1:38.91) in the 100-yard breaststroke.

• Cooper finished fourth as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay, sixth as part of the 200-yard medley relay, 24th (1:20.58) in the 100-yard backstroke, 25th (1:32.29) in the 100-yard butterfly and 38th (1:13.33) in the 100-yard freestyle.

• In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Louise Goodrum Invitational, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, Nov. 2.
