Timothy Rudd begins his 11th season as the head coach of both women's indoor & outdoor track and field and his fourth as the head coach of men's indoor & outdoor track and field at Rhode Island College. He also serves as coordinator of men's and women's cross country. Rudd is starting his 11th season guiding the women's program and 10th overseeing the men's harriers.
Prior to assuming the head coach's duties, he spent nine seasons as an assistant men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field coach.
During his time as both an assistant coach and head coach at Rhode Island College, the track and field programs have produced 69 NCAA Qualifiers and 26 All-Americans. Recently, his coaching staff was named the Little East Coaching Staff of the Year in both 2018 and 2019. During those two years, the women's program captured back-to-back conference titles.
In 2021-22, he guided the Anchorwomen to a second place finish at the Little East Indoor Championship.
Rudd led the RIC track & field program through a very difficult phase in 2020-21 due to Covid-19. After practicing for much of the fall, the Anchormen and Anchorwomen participated in three meets when many programs were shut down. Three student-athletes claimed Little East individual titles under his tutelage.
In ’19-20, he led the women's indoor program to a fourth place finish in the Little East and a 12th-place mark in New England. The outdoor season was not held due to the Coronavirus outbreak. In cross country, the men's program finished sixth at the LEC Championship.
In 2018-19, Rudd guided the women's indoor and outdoor track and field programs to the N.E. Alliance and Little East Championships. He and his assistants were named the Coaching Staff of the Year for both seasons. In cross country, RIC finished third on the women's side and eighth on the men's side in the Little East.
In 2017-18, Rudd guided the women's outdoor track & field team to the first LEC Championship in school history. The men's cross country team notched a seventh place finish in the LEC while the women's cross country squad recorded a third place finish.
In his first season at the helm in 2015, Rudd guided the Anchorwomen women's cross country program to a sixth place finish in the Little East Conference and a 45th place effort in New England.
In indoor track & field, Rhode Island College placed fourth in the N.E. Alliance and second in the Little East Conference at the Alliance Championships. RIC also finished seventh at N.E. Div. III Championships and sent one competitor to the NCAA Div. III National Championships.
In the outdoor season, Rhode Island College finished seventh in the N.E. Alliance and fifth in the Little East Conference at the Alliance Championships. RIC finished 14th at the N.E. Div. III Championships under his guidance.
He is no stranger to Rhode Island College sports fans, having competed in cross country and indoor and outdoor track for the Anchormen during his undergraduate days. He was named to Rhode Island College’s All-75th Anniversary Men’s Track Team in 2005. He left RIC as the indoor program’s all-time record-holder in the 600, 1,000, 1,500 and the 3,000 meters, as well as the distance medley relay and the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay. Rudd still holds the school record for the top 1,500 meter time with a mark of 4:02.01, set in 2001-02. During his indoor career, he earned numerous All-New England, All-ECAC and All-Alliance/Little East honors in several events.
The Warwick, Rhode Island native was also a standout in outdoor track, wrapping up his career in 2004. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors several times in both the 800 and 1,500 meters over the course of his career and was part of the school-record holding 4x400 meter relay team at the time of his graduation.
He also ran two seasons of cross country at RIC in 2002 and 2003. He was named a Distinguished Student-Athlete by the Speaker of the House and the Rhode Island House of Representatives in 2002 and 2004. He was into RIC's Athletic Hall of Fame in October of 2016.
He holds a National Pole Vaulting Coaches Association (NPVCA) certification and a U.S. Track & Field Level 1 certification.
Rudd earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Rhode Island College in 2004 and his currently working on his master’s degree in public administration at the University of Rhode Island.
He is currently a police officer for the City of Providence.
