Destinee Barrette begins her third year as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s track and field programs. Barrette serves as the team’s throwing coach.

Barrette is one of the most accomplished throwers in Rhode Island College women’s track and field history. The Warwick, R.I. native was recently named to RIC’s 100th Anniversary Team for track and field and helped lead the Anchorwomen to the 2018 Little East Championship during the outdoor campaign.

During her outdoor career, Barrette qualified for the NCAA Div. III National Championship in the hammer in each of her four seasons (2018, ’17, ’15, ’14). She posted a pair of 12th place finishes as a sophomore in 2015 and again as a junior in 2016. Barrette earned All-New England honors in the hammer three times, which included a second place performance in 2015. She was the New England Alliance and Little East Champion in the hammer three times and earned N.E. Alliance honors in each of her four seasons. Barrette also earned N.E. Alliance honors in both the shot and discus during her career.

In indoor track and field, Barrette earned both All-New England  and New England Alliance honors in the weight throw three times, while securing one N.E. Alliance honor in the shot. Barrette won the Alliance and Little East in the hammer once, while finishing second twice. She was named the Little East Women’s Outdoor Rookie Field Athlete of the Year in 2014.

Barrette earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Rhode Island College in 2018.

In addition to her coaching duties, she is currently a behavioral specialist with the Stevens Treatment Program.
