RIC Holds Off Worcester State to Improve to 3-0

Worcester, Mass.--Senior outside hitter Sarina Marines (Cranston, R.I.) racked up a double-double with 18 kills and 16 digs as Rhode Island College hung on for a 3-2 win at Worcester State on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first set got out of hand for the Anchorwomen as the Lancers rattled off six straight points late in the frame to win, 25-19.
 
• Despite a slow start in the second from RIC, the visitors took control as Marines and senior outside hitter Talia Lewis (Sacramento, Calif.) combined for three kills in a row in, which helped propel RIC to a 25-19 decision
 
• The Anchorwomen narrowly dropped the third, 25-23, before taking the fourth, 25-19, to forces a decisive fifth set.
 
• Back-to-back kills by sophomore outside hitter Jocelyn Sigouin-Adorno (Fall River, Mass.) in a stretch of eight consecutive points by RIC put the visitors in the driver's seat for the rest of the game and improve to 3-0.
 
• Senior defensive specialist Carolyn Bailey (Ipswich, Mass.) and senior outside hitter Marina Colonis (Waterford, Conn.) combined for 35 digs on the evening with 18 and 17, respectively.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Bridgewater State on Thursday, Sept. 10 (6 p.m.).
