Duclos Leads Anchorwomen in Split at Southern Maine

Gorham, Maine--Junior right fielder Sydney Duclos (North Providence, R.I.) went a combined 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and one run scored to help Rhode Island College split a doubleheader vs. Southern Maine in Little East Conference action at the USM Softball Stadium on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• RBI doubles from Duclos, senior second baseman Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) and junior left fielder Melanie Earley (Lumberton, N.J.) in the top half of the fourth helped RIC build a 5-0 advantage.
 
• An RBI sacrifice fly by sophomore third baseman Gabrielle Sweeney (Shirley, Mass.) gave the Anchorwomen an extra insurance run in the fifth stanza.
 
• Sophomore shortstop Joey Meyer (South Milwaukee, Wis.) went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

• Freshman pitcher Mia Crudale (Cranston, R.I.) went the complete game for the win (13-1).
 
GAME TWO
• The Huskies got out to a, 1-0, lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly, but the visitors answered in the top half of the third as Earley brought in senior center fielder Sophia Crudale (Cranston, R.I.) on an RBI single.
 
• USM left three runners on base in the fifth inning and the Anchorwomen left two on base in the top of the eighth before the hosts walked it off on a double in the home half of the eighth frame.

• Senior pitcher Gabby Cunha (Cranston, R.I.) went the distance with five strikeouts and was the hard-luck loser. (6-7).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College continue Little East play with a doubleheader at Plymouth State on Saturday, May 2 (Noon).
