VTSU Castleton Sweeps Anchorwomen

Castleton, Vt.--Junior right fielder Sydney Duclos (North Providence, R.I.) went a combined 3-for-6 with a triple, four runs scored and four RBI as Rhode Island College was swept at VTSU Castleton in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• Duclos posted a bases-clearing triple to bring in all three runners in the second inning to start a five-run frame for the visitors.
 
• Another run by sophomore first baseman Jillian Guilfoyle (Derby, Conn.), who scored on an error in the third stanza, put the Anchorwomen up, 6-0.
 
• The Spartans quickly tied the game, 6-6, with a combined six runs in the fourth and fifth frames.
 
• RIC's fate was sealed as the hosts would come from all the way back to walk-off the visitors in the bottom half of the seventh on an RBI-double.
 
• Sophomore shortstop Joey Meyer (South Milwaukee, Wis.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

• Senior pitcher Gabby Cunha (Cranston, R.I.) was dealt the loss.
 
GAME TWO
• As RIC was still reeling from the game one setback, the hosts hammered the Anchorwomen with eight runs in the opening inning to build a commanding lead.
 
• RIC would get seven runs back in the fourth inning as senior center fielder Sophia Crudale (Cranston, R.I.) brought in two runs with a single to climb within three,10-7.
 
• Junior catcher Brianna Bailey (Windsor, Conn.) notched an RBI-single in the seventh stanza.
 
• Senior second baseman Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored.

• Junior pitcher Ashleigh von der Linden (Stratham, N.H.) took the loss (3-3).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College continue Little East play with a doubleheader at Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday, April 21 (3:30 p.m.).
