Despite record-breaking low temperatures, which included snow flurries, in Florida this past week, the reception received by President
Dr. Jack Warner from alumni and friends was warm and eventful.
The President was the primary mover at four different events that provided him an opportunity to communicate the great works going on at the college in an informal and relaxing atmosphere.
On Monday, Feb. 2, the RIC Frostbite Invitational Mini-Golf Tournament took place in Naples. The tourney was renamed frostbite because of the biting cold and was followed by a lunch and conversation.
On Tuesday, the President played host to a tour of the Everglades on an airboat and swamp buggy followed by a picnic lunch.
Wednesday evening featured a dinner attended by just under 100 people at the Player's Club at Lely where he addressed those in attendance about the incredibly good works taking place on campus with record-breaking enrollment now in place following an extended decline. The nearly two-hour event also provided him with the opportunity to engage in smaller group discussion in a casual format.
There was no resting between events as Dr. Warner met with President Emeritus
Dr. John Nazarian as well as
Nat and
Ellen Calamis and
Lee and
Jackie Morse. Nat and Ellen have been the impetus behind a merit award for students who support RIC student-athletes (i.e., managers, stats, etc.) and Lee and Jackie are also great contributors. The award is named in honor of their late friends and college grads
Bob '66 and
Lucy '67 Mantia. Judging by the feedback and the breadth of excitement from those in attendance, the trip was another great success.
RIC Foundation Executive Director
Eric Schoen and Director of Athletics
Don Tencher accompanied the President.
Alums
Frank '81 and
Kathy Anzeveno once again played a pivotal role in handling the logistics for all events.
The college will be back in Florida in March for an event in conjunction with the Boston Red Sox.
