Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College freshman sprinter Marcos Ruiz Uben (Westerly, R.I.) and classmate thrower Christian Briggs (West Warwick, R.I.) were recognized by the Little East for their respective performances at Wheaton's Lyons Invitational on Jan. 24.
Ruiz Uben was named the Little East Men's Rookie Track Athlete of the Week. He qualified for the N.E. Div. III Championship with a first place finish in the 400m open (51.85) and also placed seventh in the 60m hurdles (8.68).
Briggs was named the Little East Men's Rookie Field Athlete of the Week. He placed fourth in the weight throw (15.82m).
Rhode Island College finished third (seven teams) with a team score of 63.0. WPI won the invitational with a team score of 131.0.
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday, Jan. 31.
