Schuermann and Monahan Lead Anchorwomen Past UMass Boston, 74-63

Providence, R.I.--Junior guard Meagan Schuermann (Cooperstown, N.Y.) registered a game-high 23 points and collected six rebounds as Rhode Island College defeated UMass Boston, 73-64, in Little East action played at The Murray Center on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen opened the game on an 11-2 run before the Beacons found a groove as the first quarter was separated by three points in the host's favor at the end of the first frame, 20-17.
 
• Schuermann tallied six points in the second stanza to help the Anchorwomen hold the lead at halftime, 38-32.
 
• UMB won the third quarter, as they outscored the Anchorwomen by four points, but RIC still led, 52-50, with 10 minutes to play.
 
• The Beacons leveled the game at 58 with 5:10 left in the final quarter until the Anchorwomen made shots on five straight possessions with 3:30 left to go.
 
• Freshman forward Eva Monahan (Woodstock, Conn.) recorded eight of her 15 points in the fourth frame to go along with 11 rebounds for the game.

• Sophomore classmates Jaina Yekelchik (North Scituate, R.I.) and Shalyn Smith (Middletown, Conn.) both posted double figures with 11 and 10, respectively.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday, Jan. 21 (5 p.m.).
