Madison Medbury Receives the Helen M. Murphy Award at Cap and Gown Day

Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College senior guard Madison Medbury (Scituate, R.I.) received the Helen M. Murphy Award at the college's annual Cap and Gown Day held in Roberts Hall on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The award is based not only on athletic prowess, but also values community and campus involvement and honors an outstanding Rhode Island College senior woman athlete.
 
Medbury helped RIC's women's basketball team win four Little East Regular Season Championships, three Little East Tournament titles, earn three NCAA Div. III Championship berths, reach the Sweet 16 in 2024 and the Final Four in 2023.
 
She played in 112 games, starting 88 of them. Medbury scored 1,078 career points and averaged 9.6 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 3.6 apg and 1.9 spg.
 
As a senior in 2024-25, Medbury was named a D3hoops.com Fourth Team All-American, an NCAA Div. III Honorable Mention All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), the D3hoops.com Region 2 Most Outstanding Player and First Team All-Region, Second Team All-Region by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA), the Little East Women's Basketball Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Little East and to the league's All-Defensive Team.
 
As a junior in 2023-24, Medbury was named Second Team All-Region 2 by D3hoops.com, First Team All-Little East, Fourth Team All-Region by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) and the Most Outstanding Player of the 2024 Little East Women's Basketball Championship.
 
As a sophomore in 2022-23, Medbury was named to the Little East's All-Defensive Team.
 
She is a health science and psychology major with a minor in behavioral neuroscience.
 
ABOUT THE HELEN M. MURPHY AWARD
The Murphy Award was established in 1979 and sponsored by the faculty of the Henry Barnard School to honor an outstanding Rhode Island College senior woman athlete. The award is named for Helen M. Murphy, a graduate of Rhode Island College in 1939, who was a member of the faculty for 38 years and taught at the Henry Barnard School, beginning in 1941, until her retirement in 1979.
