Softball Splits With Husson

Providence, R.I.--Fifth-year third baseman Victoria Young (Sterling, Conn.) went a combined 5-for-8 with nine RBI as Rhode Island College split a doubleheader with  Husson (13-11; 7-8) at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex played on Sunday afternoon.

Rhode Island College 13, 7; Husson 11, 8
Rhode Island College (9-7)
Husson (7-9)

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• After a leadoff homer from the Eagles in the first inning, the Anchorwomen responded with eight runs in the first and second frames, thanks to a three-run triple by Young, to lead, 8-1, heading into the third.

• Young then homered in the fourth and was excellent on the defensive end, making a diving stop at third to throw out an Eagle runner at first from her knees for the out.

• Sophomore right fielder Sydney Duclos (North Providence, R.I.) brought home three runners on a bases-clearing double, which would prove to be the decisive runs, in the bottom of the sixth.

• Senior pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) recorded the win (5-2).

GAME TWO
• Once again Husson was out to an early lead, this time knocking in four runs in the top of the first.

• However, the Anchorwomen were no strangers to the deficit as they crept back into the game, knotting it up at four apiece, in the first and second innings thanks to an RBI single by junior second baseman Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) and a two-run single from Young.

• The Eagles four runs in the last three innings to shut the door on a comeback bid from the hosts.

• Sophomore reliever Ashleigh von der Linden (Stratham, N.H.) was handed the loss (4-3).

• Simmons went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBI and a triple.

• The Anchorwomen and the Eagles combined for 39 runs and 55 total hits on the day.
