Middletown, Conn.--Senior Matthew Kelly (Katonah, N.Y,) went 2-0 and assured himself of All-Region honors as Rhode Island College wrapped up the first day of action at the 2025 NCAA Div. III Northeast Regional Championship, hosted by Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
• Rhode Island College is currently in eighth place (18 teams) with 41.5 points. Johnson and Wales is in first with a team score of 99.5.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Kelly went 2-0 with a pair of pins to reach the semifinals at 197 lbs.
 
• Senior 165 lbs. Christopher McCarthy (Middletown, N.J.) went 2-1 with two technical fall wins and is in contention to earn All-Region honors when competition starts back up tomorrow.
 
• Senior 285 lbs. Michael Alfonso (Garfield, N.J.) went 2-1 with a pair of pins and remains in contention to earn All-Region honors.
 
• Senior 133 lbs. Kwesi Amoa (Central Islip, N.Y.) went 2-2 with two pins.
 
• Senior 149 lbs. Michael Pestana (North Bergen, N.J.) went 2-2 with a pair of decisions.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2025 NEICAAA Championship, held at the Reggie Lewis Center on Friday and Saturday, March 7-8.
