Anchorwomen Notch Five Shutouts in, 8-1, Win vs. Salem State

Providence, R.I.—Senior Amara Devine (Greenville, R.I.) paired with fifth-year Amiah Sommer (Cumberland, R.I.) for an 8-0 shutout at No. 3 doubles, then each Anchorwoman secured a singles shutout win, as Rhode Island College improved to 11-0 with an 8-1 win over Salem State at the RIC Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC took all three in doubles action, highlighted by Devine and Sommer's whitewash at the third spot. The Anchorwomen have lost just one doubles contest on the season (30-1).
 
• The hosts quickly won the match with three consecutive shutouts to open individual action. Freshman Haylie Peacock (West Gardiner, Maine) clinched the victory with a straight set (6-0, 6-0) win at No. 4 singles.
 
• Devine and Sommer are 7-0 at No. 3 doubles on the season. Peacock and fellow rookie Arianna De Thomas (Providence, R.I.) raised their personal singles marks to 11-0.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at home vs. UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Oct. 1 (3:30 p.m.).
