RIC Downs Worcester State, 3-0, for Third Straight Win

Worcester, Mass.--Sophomore setter Yuleisy Alvelo (Springfield, Mass.) and classmate outside hitter Sarina Marines (Cranston, R.I.) each tallied double-doubles to lift Rhode Island College past Worcester State, 3-0, on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC edged the hosts by two in the opening set, 25-23, before taking a 2-0 advantage with a 25-18 decision in the second set. With the third stanza deadlocked, 24-24, a Lancer setting error and a kill by freshman outside hitter Olivia Rollinson (Coventry, R.I.) helped RIC to a 26-24 decision and the win.
 
• Alvelo's 23 assists and 11 digs marked her fourth double-double to lead the team. She also contributed with six kills on the night.
 
• Marines racked up 12 kills and 11 digs to extend her double-double count to three.
 
• Senior outside hitter Rhiannon Hodovanec (Feeding Hills, Agawam) notched eight kills and eight digs.
 
• Sophomore defensive setter Carolyn Bailey (Ipswich, Mass.) put in a good defensive effort with nine digs.
 
• RIC has won three straight matches and has three shutouts on the season.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Salem State on Tuesday, Sept. 24 (6 p.m.).
