Kidd Fires a Two-Hit Shutout as RIC Eliminates UMass Dartmouth at Little East Championship

Boston, Mass.—Junior pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) fired a two-hit shutout and freshman left fielder Melanie Earley (Lumberton, N.J.) went 1-for-3 with a triple and three RBI as No. 4 Rhode Island College eliminated No. 2 UMass Dartmouth, 5-0, in game six of the 2024 Little East Softball Championship, hosted by UMass Boston on Friday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen scored all five of their runs in the second inning.
 
• Earley tripled with the bases loaded to open the scoring. Sophomore second baseman Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) singled in Earley and later scored on junior shortstop Amanda Conti's (Lincoln, R.I.) RBI walk with the bases full.
 
• Kid did the rest, allowing just two hits and punching out 15 Corsairs to secure the win (18-5) and keep the Anchorwomen alive in the tourney.
 
• Simmons and senior third baseman Victoria Young (Sterling, Conn.) each went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will face No. 1-seed and tournament host UMass Boston in game eight of the 2024 Little East Softball Championship on Friday, May 10 (1 p.m.).
