Anchorwomen Split at Worcester State

Worcester, Mass.--Freshman left fielder Melanie Earley (Lumberton, N.J.) went a combined 2-for-6 with two RBI as Rhode Island College split a doubleheader at Worcester State (7-1; 2-3) on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• After a pitcher's duel resulted in a scoreless first four innings, the Anchorwomen broke the game open with seven runs over the final three innings.
 
• Earley went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, while sophomore second baseman Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
 
• Junior pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) threw all seven innings and struck out seven batters for the win (15-1).
 
GAME TWO
• The Lancers took the early lead as they built a 3-0 lead after two innings.
 
• A sacrifice fly by junior shortstop Amanda Conti (Lincoln, R.I.) and solo home run by sophomore right fielder Sophia Crudale (Cranston, R.I.) was not enough for the Anchorwomen to complete the comeback.
 
• Senior center fielder Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) went 2-for-2 with a run scored, one double and a walk.
 
• Freshman reliever Ashleigh von der Linden (Stratham, N.H.) threw five innings and struck out five batters.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East play with a doubleheader at home vs. Keene State on Saturday, April 26 (2 p.m.).
