Kidd Strikes Out 14 as Softball Wins in Extra Innings at Methodist

Fayetteville, N.C.—Junior pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) hurled a complete game, allowing just two earned runs and striking out 14, as Rhode Island College snuck past Methodist, 7-5, in eight innings in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after two frames, scoring two runs on errors and another on an RBI single by senior center fielder Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.).
 
• The Anchorwomen led by one, 5-4, in the bottom of the seventh, but the hosts tied it up and forced extra innings.
 
• RIC put three across in the top of the eighth on Methodist errors and Kidd held down the fort in the bottom of the inning to preserve the win.
 
• Katz went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play the second game of its doubleheader at Methodist on Sunday, March 10 (3 p.m.).
