Anchorwomen Post Shutout in, 3-0, Win at Curry

Milton, Mass.--Freshman outside hitter Sarina Marines (Cranston R.I.) recorded 13 kills and 13 digs for her eighth double-double of the year as the Rhode Island College defeated Curry, 3-0, on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Back-to-back service aces by Marines put the Anchorwomen up, 12-7, in the first set. Junior middle blocker Megan Philbrick (Johnston, R.I.) pitched in with four kills to help RIC take the opener, 25-15.
 
• The Anchorwomen continued their prowess in the second set, going on an 11-2 run, much in part to three consecutive service aces by freshman libero Carolyn Bailey (Ipswich, Mass.). RIC was able to once again win the set by a score of 25-15.
 
• Curry attempted to fight back in the third, coming back from a 20-15 deficit to the frame at 24-24, but the Anchorwomen held together, taking two straight points to finish the job and win the set, 26-24, and the match
 
• Freshman defensive specialist Marina Colonis (Waterford, Conn.) put together a team-high 14 digs.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East action at Plymouth State on Saturday, Sept. 30 (4 p.m.).
