Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College has named Amelia Murphy '23 as an assistant women's volleyball coach. She will assist Head Coach Jenn Cabral with all phases of the RIC women's volleyball program.
 
"I am honored to have the opportunity to assistant coach the women's volleyball team and to give back to a program that has given me so much over the past five years," Murphy said. "I look forward to working alongside Coach Jenn in further developing this year's team into a group of student-athletes who will continue to uphold the values of Rhode Island College students, teachers, administrators, and the athletic department can be proud of. 
 
"I am thrilled to have Amelia join the coaching staff at RIC," Cabral stated. "Amelia made a huge impact on the team as a player and will continue to do so as the assistant coach. She is a great fit for this position as she has been a part of the volleyball program for the past five seasons and understands what it takes to be competitive in the Little East Conference. I look forward to working with her and continuing to positively grow the program together."
 
Murphy joins the staff after a one-year stint as the head boys' junior varsity volleyball coach and an assistant boys' varsity volleyball coach at East Providence High School in 2023.
 
The outside hitter closed out her career having played in 347 sets in 100 matches. She hit .172 (1,059-532-3,063) with 1,059 kills (3.05/set), 42 assists (0.12/set), 54 aces (0.16/set), 637 digs (1.84/set) and 143 blocks (0.41/set).
 
The North Attleboro, Massachusetts native was named Second Team All-Little East as a senior in 2022 and was twice selected as the team's MVP (2022, '21).
 
Murphy earned a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Rhode Island College in 2022.
 
In addition to her coaching duties, Murphy works as a health and physical education teacher in the East Providence (R.I.) school department.
