HOW IT HAPPENED
• After the Huskies took the lead in the second inning, the Anchorwomen struck for three runs in the third. Senior designated player
Cassidy Schoen (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), freshman left fielder
Sophia Crudale (Warwick, R.I.) and junior third baseman
Victoria Young (Sterling, Conn.) each produced runs.
Â
• Southern Maine would capitalize on a RIC error and tacked on a pair of runs to tie the game at 3-3 in the sixth.
Â
• With two outs in the 10th, Young reached with a single. Junior center fielder
Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) then walked to bring up Conti. With two strikes, Conti sent a single through the middle to score Young, eliminate the Huskies and send the Anchorwomen to day three of the tournament.
Â
• RIC's pitchers were phenomenal. Freshman
Gabby Cunha (Warwick, R.I.) started the game, going 4.1 innings and striking out eight. Sophomore pitcher
Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) hurled the remaining 5.2 innings and notched the win (13-8).
