New London, Conn.--Junior Steven Doss (West Warwick, R.I.) established a new program record in the 100m as the Rhode Island College men's outdoor track and field team finished fifth (10 teams) at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
• RIC placed fifth (10 teams) with a team score of 70.50. UMass Dartmouth won the invitational with a score of 120.0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Doss finished first in the 100m (10.77), which is a new program record for that event.
 
• Sophomore Mahari Nayte (Providence, R.I.) finished first in the 400m (50.57) and fifth in the 200m (22.61).
 
• Freshman Shamus Culhane (North Kingstown, R.I.) finished first in the hammer (50.84m).
 
• Senior Edward Garofalo (Newport, R.I.) placed second in the triple jump (13.15m) and seventh in the long jump (6.12m).
 
• Freshman Brandon Mota (West Warwick, R.I.) placed second in the hammer (50.31m) and 25^th in the discus (28.71m).
 
• Freshman Jaden Saunders (Smithfield, R.I.) finished tied for fourth in the high jump (1.80m) and finished 12^th in the long jump (5.75m).
 
• Freshman Ryan Hazard (Wakefield, R.I.) placed fifth in the shot (14.88m), eighth in both the discus (38.65m) and hammer (44.70m) and 15^th in the javelin (39.05m).
 
• Junior Christopher McCarthy (Cranston, R.I.) placed fifth in the hammer (47.19m).
 
• Senior Austin Michael (Swansea, Mass.) placed fifth in the 5,000m (16:22.93).
 
• Freshman Juan Reyes (Providence, R.I.) placed 16^th in the 400m hurdles (1:06.26).
 
• Sophomore Matthew Taylor (Smithfield, R.I.) finished 17^th in the 400m hurdles (1:06.53).
 
• Sophomore Benjamin Lockwood (Saunderstown, R.I.) finished 18^th in the 800m (2:07.54).
 
• Freshman Isiah Briggs (Providence, R.I.) finished 19^th in the long jump (5.57m), 21^st in the 100m (11.71) and 23^rd in the 200m (23.94).
 
• Freshman Izaiah Karweh (Providence, R.I.) finished 22^nd in the 100m (11.72).
 
• Senior Andre Solomon-Messier (Providence, R.I.) finished 23^rd in the 1,500m (4:21.03) and 34^th in the 800m (2:20.86).
