Anchormen Finish 14th at NEICAAA Championship

Boston, Mass.--Junior Steven Doss (West Warwick, R.I.) broke the program record in the 200m as the Rhode Island College men's track and field team finished 14th (27 teams) at the 2023 NEICAA Championship hosted by The Track at New Balance on Thursday and Friday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
• The Anchormen finished 14th (27 teams) with a team score of 23.0 points. The University of Rhode Island placed first with a team score of 199.0.
 
• RIC was the highest-finishing Div. III institution. The event was comprised mostly of Division I, II, and III institutions. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Doss finished first in the 200m (21.42) and 11th in the 4x400m relay (3:25.25). His time in the 200m ranks No. 2 in the nation and No. 1 in New England. The 4x400m relay is No. 6 in New England and No. 1 in the Little East.
 
• Sophomore Mahari Nayte (Providence, R.I.) placed second in the 800m (1:53.31) and 11th in the 4x400m relay (3:25.25). His time in the 800m ranks No. 19 in the nation and No. 3 in New England. The 4x400m relay is No. 6 in New England and No. 1 in the Little East.
 
• Junior Michelson Salomon (Providence, R.I.) finished fourth in the weight throw (17.81m).
 
• Freshman Shamus Culhane (North Kingstown, R.I.) placed 13th in the weight throw (15.93m).
 
• Senior Edward Garofalo (Newport, R.I.) placed 14th in the triple jump (13.15m).
 
• Freshman Ryan Hazard (Wakefield, R.I.) placed 22nd in the shot (14.16m).
 
• Freshman Isiah Briggs (Providence, R.I.) finished 11th in the 4x400m relay (3:25.25). The 4x400m relay is No. 6 in New England and No. 1 in the Little East.
 
• Freshman Juan Reyes (Providence, R.I.) finished 11th in the 4x400m relay (3:25.25). The 4x400m relay is No. 6 in New England and No. 1 in the Little East.

• Freshman Jaden Saunders (Smithfield, R.I.) placed 14th in the high jump (1.85m).
 
• Senior Andre Solomon-Messier (North Providence, R.I.) placed 22nd in the 5,000m (16:19.25).
 
• Senior Austin Michael (Swansea, Mass.) finished 22nd in the mile (4:43.99).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at Boston University's David Hemery Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11.
