Providence, R.I.—The Rhode Island College Department of Athletics held its Basketball Madness event at The Murray Center on Wednesday evening.
Over 500 students and fans were on hand to support the men's and women's basketball teams as they showcased their talents in preparation for the 2023-24 season.
In addition to each team playing 20-minute intra-squad scrimmages, there were numerous entertaining contests for students to win cash and prizes. Everyone received free pizza from Big Tony's Pizza and The 78 Pub at This Guy's Pizza, as well as drinks, at the end of the event.
"Basketball Madness, like Anchor Madness before it, is event we held annually through 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic hit," Director of Athletics
Donald E. Tencher said. "Along with our coaches and student-athletes, I deeply appreciate the support of our student body and fans who have allowed us to sustain and excel and it shows in events like this. We are expecting great things from our teams this season ahead and we are looking forward to seeing everyone at our winter events."
Women's basketball opens the 2023-24 season at home vs. Tufts on Friday, Nov. 10 (6 p.m.), while men's basketball opens at Fitchburg State on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
