Devine and Sommer Improve to 5-0 in LEC Doubles as RIC Suffers First Conference Setback

Providence, R.I.—Junior Amara Devine (Greenville, R.I.) and senior Amiah Sommer (Cumberland, R.I.) improved to 8-2 as a doubles pairing as Rhode Island College lost, 7-2, vs. UMass Boston in Little East women's tennis action on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• On Saturday, Devine and Sommer won, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles. Senior Lauren Macera (Cranston, R.I.) and sophomore Erica Botelho (Smithfield, R.I.) won, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles as the hosts took a 2-1 lead after pairs action. Both groups are now 5-0 vs. Little East opposition.
 
• Rain halted the match after doubles was finished and singles action picked back up at the RIC Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
 
• The Beacons swept all six singles matches to stay unbeaten in Little East play and hand RIC its first conference setback in 2023.
 
• The loss snapped an eight-match win streak for the Anchorwomen.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at Salem State on Monday, Oct. 9 (noon).
