Medford, Mass.--Sophomore Mahari Nayte (Providence, R.I.) won the 600m as the Rhode Island College men's track and field placed fifth (seven teams) at the Tufts Jumbo Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
• RIC placed fifth (seven teams) with a team score of 55.0. Tufts won the event with a team score of 159.0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Nayte placed first in the 600m (1:21.52) and fifth in the 1,000m (2:36.72).
 
• Junior Michelson Salomon (Providence, R.I.) finished first in the weight throw (17.16m) and 17^th in the shot (8.96m).
 
• Freshman Ryan Hazard (Wakefield, R.I.) placed second in the shot (14.96m) and eighth in the weight throw (13.75m). Hazard set the program record in the shot.
 
• Freshman Jaden Saunders (Smithfield, R.I.) placed third in the high jump (1.90m), ninth in the triple jump (12.53m), 12^th in the long jump (5.76m) and 23^rd in the 200m (25.45).
 
• Senior Edward Garofalo (Newport, R.I.) finished third in the triple jump (12.93m) and 10^th in the long jump (5.81m).
 
• Freshman Dante DiGregorio (Smithfield, R.I.) finished fourth in the 800m (2:15.23) and 17^th in the mile (4:58.41).
 
• Junior Matthew Taylor (Smithfield, R.I.) placed sixth in the 800m (2:30.21).
 
• Freshman Shamus Culhane (North Kingstown, R.I.) finished seventh in the weight throw (13.92m).
 
• Freshman Brandon Mota (West Warwick, R.I.) placed ninth in the weight throw (13.66m).
 
• Senior Andre Solomon-Messier (North Providence, R.I.) placed ninth in the 3,000m (9:23.10) and 17^th in the 1,000m (2:54.68).
 
• Freshman Juan Reyes (Providence, R.I.) placed 11^th in the 400m (54.67) and 28^th in the 200m (25.69).
 
• Junior Christopher McCarthy (Cranston, R.I.) placed 11^th in the weight throw (12.96m).
 
• Senior Austin Michael (Swansea, Mass.) finished 14^th in the 1,000m (2:47.48).
 
• Freshman Kordell O'Brien (Newport, R.I.) finished 33^rd in the 200m (26.76).
