Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College has named
Cy Butler as its Coordinator of Recreation and Fitness Programs.

Eric Blanchard said. "Cy brings a great deal of energy and passion to working with students and will impact our programming in a positive way."
Butler has a long history of experience coaching and training athletes at the intercollegiate and high school levels. He's worked with AAU baseball and softball teams, as well as football, basketball, track, lacrosse and field hockey.
Butler most recently served as Offensive Quality Control Analyst for the Bryant Bulldogs football team in 2021 and assisted with the wide receivers and returners as well.
From 2017 to 2019, Butler served as the head coach for the Smithfield Sentinels football team.
In 2012, Butler took over at Worcester State as the wide receivers and returners coach. He led the Lancers to new heights on offense, breaking multiple school records. He went on to gain the titles of passing game coordinator, and offensive coordinator, before leaving after the 2016 season due to the birth of his second child.
In 2011, Butler was the defensive coordinator at Moses Brown School, he also worked in a similar capacity at Providence County Day School in 2010. Prior to that year he coached the running backs at Mount Ida College in 2009, coaching running back,
Johrome Bunch to ECFC conference player of the year honors.
Butler served as the special teams coordinator, wide receivers, defensive backs, and returns coach in 2008 at South Kingston where he would help lead the Rebels to the 2008 Division II RI State Championship.
Also in 2008, Butler was the interim assistant offensive coordinator, played wide receiver for the New England Surge and was runner-up for league MVP honors in the CIFL.
His coaching career began at Moses Brown from 2005 to 2007, as the wide receivers coach, defensive backs coach, and returns coach, resulting in back to back runner-up in the state championship in 2006 and 2007.
Following a standout career at the University of Rhode Island, Coach Butler played in the Arena League from 2001 to 2006 for the New Haven Ninjas, Mohegan Wolves and the Albany Conquest. In his six seasons he would finish with totals of 129 receptions for 1,497 yards to go along with 33 touchdowns and four returns for touchdown.
In addition to holding two of the top seven all-purpose single-season yardage marks while at URI, Butler finished his career as the leader in all-purpose yardage (5,380), second in career passes caught (189), sixth in career receiving yardage (2,348) and tied for seventh with 14 receiving scores from 1993-96. He was also a team captain in 1996.
A 1993 graduate of Weston High in Massachusetts, Butler was also a Hall of Fame athlete. Among other career highlights, Butler was the 1991 and 1992 Boston Globe Player of the Year, a two-time All-
Boston Globe and
Boston Herald selection, and he helped lead the 1991 squad to the Division 6 Super Bowl Championship.
Butler graduated from URI with a bachelor's degree in sociology. He is married to his loving and beautiful wife Kristina and has two young children, Bryce and Bennett.
