Springfield, Mass.--Freshman Ryan Hazard (Wakefield, R.I.) took home first place in the shot as the Rhode Island College men's track & field team finished second (seven teams) at the Springfield Season Opener on Saturday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
• Rhode Island College finished second (seven teams) with a team score of 82.50. Springfield took home the crown with 272.0 team points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Sophomore Mahari Nayte (Providence, R.I.) finished first in both the 600m (1:23.05) and the 4,000m distance medley relay (11:13.25) and 10^th in the 200m (24.03).
 
• Sophomore Justin Dorsey (Warwick, R.I.) placed first in the 4,000m distance medley relay (11:13.25) and third in the 3,000m (9:06.41).
 
• Hazard finished first in the shot (14.46m) and fifth in the weight throw (14.05m).
 
• Freshman Dante DiGregorio (Smithfield, R.I.) placed first in the 4,000m distance medley relay (11:13.25), eighth in the mile (4:55.35) and 10^th in the 1,000m (2:58.17).
 
• Freshman Juan Reyes (Providence, R.I.) placed first in the 4,000m distance medley relay (11:13.25) and ninth in the 600m (1:32.36).
 
• Senior Austin Michael (Swansea, Mass.) finished second in the mile (4:45.28) and sixth in the 1,000m (2:51.05).
 
• Senior Edward Garofalo (Newport, R.I.) finished second in the triple jump (12.78m) and 14^th in the long jump (5.84m).
 
• Freshman Jaden Saunders (Smithfield, R.I.) finished third in the high jump (1.85m), seventh in both the triple jump (12.33m) and the long jump (6.25m) and 25^th in the 200m (25.84).
 
• Freshman Shamus Culhane (North Kingstown, R.I.) finished third in the weight throw (15.14m).
 
• Freshman Izaiah Karweh (Providence, R.I.) placed sixth in the high jump (1.75m), 11^th in the 60m preliminaries (7.29) and 16^th in the long jump (5.65m).
 
• Freshman Brandon Mota (West Warwick, R.I.) placed seventh in the weight throw (12.77m) and 18^th in the shot (8.93m).
 
• Senior Andre Solomon-Messier (North Providence, R.I.) finished seventh in the 3,000m (9:21.06).
 
• Junior Christopher McCarthy (Cranston, R.I.) placed 10^th in the weight throw (10.90m).
 
• Sophomore Matthew Taylor (Smithfield, R.I.) finished 12^th in the 600m (1:39.98).
 
• Freshman Aiden Powers (Smithfield, R.I.) placed 13^th in the 3,000m (9:43.37).
 
Freshman Isiah Briggs (Providence, R.I.) placed 14^th in the 200m (24.51) and 15^th in the long jump (5.75m).
