Westfield, Mass.--Senior outside hitter Amelia Murphy (North Attleboro, Mass.) nearly recorded a double-double as the Rhode Island College women's volleyball team lost at Westfield State, 3-0, on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first set was a game of runs for both squads. The Anchorwomen jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the frame. The Owls immediately responded with a run to tie the game at 6-6. Both teams would rattle off multiple runs of three or more points until Westfield took the final point, 25-23.
 
• The Owls controlled the second frame the entire time and secured an 11-point, 25-14, win.
 
• The Anchorwomen found themselves down by eight, 19-11, late into set three. The visitors put up a fight, but ultimately came up short, losing the third and decisive set by six, 25-19.
 
• Murphy posted 11 kills and nine digs. Murphy now sits at 960 career kills, just 40 away from becoming the sixth Anchorwomen ever with 1,000 or more kills for her career.
 
• Sophomore setter Natalie Reid (North Attleboro, Mass.) registered 23 assists to lead the Anchorwomen.
 
• The twin tandem of senior outside hitters Shawna and Ashley Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) led the Owls in kills, with 12 and seven respectively. Shawn Crowley added 11 digs to earn a double-double and Ashley Crowley recorded three service aces.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East play at home vs. Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday, Oct. 11 (6 p.m.).
