Western Connecticut Defeats RIC in Little East Opener

Danbury, Conn.--Junior outside hitter Amelia Murphy (North Attleboro, Mass.) led RIC with nine kills and five digs as the Anchorwomen fell, 3-0 (25-13, 25-7, 25-17) in Little East women's volleyball action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The hosts bested RIC by 12, 25-13, in the opening set, then held the visitors to single digits with a 25-7 victory in the middle frame. Western Connecticut took the final set by eight, 25-17.
 
• Freshman setter Sydney Green (West Warwick, R.I.) registered five assists, one ace and two digs.
 
• Junior libero Wynter Conlon (East Walpole, Mass.) led the club with seven digs.
 
• Western Connecticut senior middle blocker Abbie Debes (New Milford, Conn.) led the hosts with eight kills. Graduate outside hitter Victoria Korzan (Southbury, Conn.) finished with six kills, two aces and nine digs. Junior setter Rory McMaster (Canton, Mich.) handed out a match-best 24 assists.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC hit -.083 (12-18-72). Western Connecticut hit .239 (31-14-71).
 
• The hosts led in kills (31-12), assists (29-10), aces (13-4) and digs (40-20).
