Tatiana Burcy (Boston, Mass.) earned her first career victory as the Rhode Island College softball team split a doubleheader with Castleton in Little East action played at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One:
• RIC got on the board first in the home half of the first inning as freshman center fielder
Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) roped a double to the gap in right center to lead off the inning. She then scored on a freshman designated player
Katelyn Ashe (Colchester, Conn.) two-run homer (1) to right field, the first of her career.

• Castleton responded in the third inning, scoring three runs on four hits, which was highlighted by a junior left fielder
Miranda Fish (Getzville, N.Y.) two-run single to center field.
Â
• The Anchorwomen knotted the score at three in the bottom of the third as Ashe doubled to right field and drove in sophomore left fielder
Julie Vincent (Norwich, Conn.) from third.

• The Spartans broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning as they drove in four runs, powered by a junior third basemen
Kayla Fac (Watertown, Conn.) two-run double to left field.

• Castleton pushed across a pair of runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh as they sailed to the victory in game one.

Katie Gallagher (Waxhaw, N.C.) earned the victory (4-0).

Game Two:
• RIC struck for four runs in the bottom of the second to stake the hosts an early, 4-0, lead. Sophomore second basemen
Ashley Armstrong (Warwick, R.I.) and sophomore catcher
Callie Rathbun (North Kingstown, R.I.) both hit RBI doubles to spark the offense.

• Ashe continued to swing a great bat in game two as she hit a leadoff double to begin the third frame and came around to score on a RBI ground out by sophomore shortstop
Cassidy Schoen (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) to give the Anchorwomen a 5-0 lead.

• A Rathbun RBI single pushed the RIC lead out to six, 6-0, as part of the two-run third stanza.

• Castleton pushed two runs across during the fourth inning on a Fish RBI triple to right field and she later scored on a sacrifice hit by Fac.

• CU junior designated player
Machaila Arjavich (Meriden, Conn.) launched a two-run homer (1) in the fifth to pull the Spartans within two, 6-4.

• RIC added a run to its lead in the home half of the fifth frame on an RBI double by junior third basemen
Reilly Clancey (Narragansett, R.I.) that scored senior first basemen
Amber Wainwright (Taunton, Mass.) to give the Anchorwomen a three-run, 7-4, lead.

Faith Turinese (Plainville, Mass.) came on in relief and earned a save (2), throwing 2.2 innings, allowing no runs on four hits to go along with a pair of strikeouts.

• Burcy hurled 4.1 innings to pick up the win (1-6).

Olivia Joy (Greenfield, Mass.) took the loss (3-4).

BY THE NUMBERS
• Wainwright went 4-for-7 on the day with two runs scored.

• Ashe went 4-for-8 with three runs scored, two doubles, one home run and three RBI.

• Katz went 4-for-7 with one run scored, a pair of doubles and one RBI.
