Alexis Boyce (Wolcott, Conn.) went 3-for-6 with a double and a solo homer, as Rhode Island College dropped a doubleheader (5-2; 6-5) vs. Southern Maine in Little East action played at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One:
• USM gained a 3-0 advantage in the top of the third, paced by a two-run double by senior designated player
Alexis Brown (Malden, Mass.).
• RIC got on the board in the fourth on a junior third baseman
Katrina Kazen (Warwick, R.I.) RBI single.
• The visitors tacked on two runs in the top of the sixth as junior third baseman
Kaitlyn Nelson (Guildhail, Vt.) and freshman center fielder
Hannah Shields (Buckfield, Maine) each smacked RBI doubles.
• The Anchormen plated one run in the bottom of the sixth on a Katz RBI triple.
• USM graduate pitcher
Kirsten Pelletier (West Gardiner, Maine) earned the win (4-0), allowing two runs on seven hits. She struck out two. RIC freshman starter
Tatiana Burcy (Boston, Mass.) took the loss (0-2) in a complete game effort.
Game Two:
• The nightcap saw the Huskies plate four runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a senior leftfielder
Samantha Hauck (Painted Post, N.Y.) RBI double.
• Boyce homered (1) in the bottom of the frame for the Anchorwomen.
• Senior catcher
Ashley Tinsman (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) tripled in a run in the second and Hauck notched an RBI single in the third to stake USM to a 6-1 lead.
• Senior first baseman
Amber Wainwright (Taunton, Mass.) knocked in a pair in the third to pull RIC within three, 6-3.
• An error led to a RIC run in the fourth, which set the stage for a near walk-off win in the seventh.
• Boyce led off with a double and scored on junior third baseman
Reilly Clancey's (Narragansett, R.I.) two-out RBI single. A Burcy double put runners on second and third, but USM freshman reliever
Lauren Merrill (Bethel, ME) earned the save (1) by getting the final out.
• Brown picked up the win (4-0), striking out seven in six innings of work. RIC sophomore starter
Faith Turinese (Plainville, Mass.) took the loss (0-2). Freshman
Caitlin Lopez (Cranston, R.I.) hurled three innings of scoreless relief.
BY THE NUMBERS
