Providence, R.I.—Sophomore pitcher
Faith Turinese (Plainville, Conn.) turned in a solid relief effort and also registered three RBI as Rhode Island College was swept by Western Connecticut (18-4; 3-1) in Little East Softball action played at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One:
• RIC jumped on the board in the top of the first on a freshman center fielder
Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) single to right and she eventually scored on a bases loaded walk drawn by sophomore catcher
Alexis Boyce (Wolcott, Conn.).
• Turinese, who was playing right field, tripled to the right center gap that cleared the bases to give the Anchorwomen a 4-0 advantage.
• WestConn answered right away in the bottom of the first frame, with three runs of its own, powered by a freshman shortstop
Rachael Ushka (Southbury, Conn.) two-run double to the gap in left center.
• WCSU tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the second thanks to another Ushka double that knocked in a pair of runs.
• The visitors continued to score runs in the third, as six runners crossed the plate on three singles and a trio of errors by the Anchorwomen, giving WCSU an eight-run, 12-4, lead.
• A grand slam by senior left fielder
Jenna Houlahan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) helped end the game early.
• WCSU sophomore pitcher
Hailey Golembiewski (Columbia, Conn.) threw a complete game, allowing four runs on two hits and striking out five batters, for her first win of the season (1-2).
• RIC freshman pitcher
Tatiana Burcy (Boston, Mass.) took the loss (0-5).
Game Two:
• A bases loaded walk and a wild pitch gave WCSU a 2-0 run in the first inning of the nightcap.
• RIC junior shortstop
Reilly Clancey (Narragansett, R.I.) walked in the sixth inning and eventually scored on a Western Connecticut throwing error.
• Western got an important insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with an Ushka RBI double to complete the sweep.
• WCSU senior pitcher
Lauren Wilcox (Newtown, Conn.) was dominant throughout the game as she fanned nine batters, allowing just two hits and one run, to pick up her first win (1-1).
• RIC freshman
Caitlin Lopez (Cranston, R.I.) took the loss (2-3). Turinese was outstanding out of the bullpen, throwing five innings of solid relief.
BY THE NUMBERS
• Ushka went 3-for-6 with two runs scored, two doubles and three RBI. Senior right fielder
Kara Hanson (East Haven, Conn.) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, one double and three RBI.
