RIC Snaps 16-Match Losing Skid to the Beacons

Providence, R.I.--Rhode Island College junior outside hitter Amelia Murphy's (North Attleboro, Mass.) double-double helped the Anchorwomen end a 16-match losing streak to UMass Boston in a 3-1 victory vs. the Beacons at The Murray Center on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC took the first set, 26-24, before the visitors evened the contest with a nine-point, 25-16, decision in the second frame.
 
• The hosts won by six, 25-19, in the third set and closed out the match with a 25-22 decision in the fourth set.
 
• The win for RIC was the first vs. UMass Boston since the Anchorwomen won, 3-1, on Sept. 7, 2007.
 
• Murphy led RIC with 14 kills to go along with 12 digs, two aces and four blocks.
 
• Freshman middle hitter Megan Philbrick (Johnston, R.I.) had four kills and four blocks, while sophomore setter Aubrey St. Onge (Tilton, N.H.) led the hosts with 16 assists.
 
• Junior libero Wynter Conlon (East Walpole, Mass.) posted 16 digs.
 
• UMass Boston graduate hitter Emilia Czapiewska (Saint Paul, Minn.) led the match with 19 kills. Junior hitter Taryn Broughal (Branford, Conn.) notched 12 winners.
 
• Sophomore libero Ally Dean (Portland, Ore.) racked up 15 digs, while graduate setter Carsen Komminsk (Worthington, OH) recorded a match-high 36 assists.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC hit .162 (32-16-99), while the Beacons hit .110 (51-35-146).
 
• The Beacons led in kills (51-32), assists (43-26) and aces 11-8. The Anchorwomen led in digs (48-44).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at tri-match at the University of New England on Saturday, Oct. 9 (1 p.m.). RIC will also face Bowdoin (3 p.m.) at the tri-match.
