Anchorwomen Fall at UMass Dartmouth, 72-62

North Dartmouth, Mass.-Sophomore center Willcia McBorrough (Providence, RI) led the way for the Anchorwomen with a 14-point, 13-rebound, double-double as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team fell to UMass Dartmouth, 72-62 , in Little East action played at the Tripp Athletic Center on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first quarter was tightly contested. Neither side built much of a lead. The Anchorwomen built their largest lead of six when sophomore guard Maire Gallagher (Worcester, MA) drained a three-point shot with 1:08 left in the frame as the visitors carried a three-point, 18-15, lead into the second quarter.

• RIC stretched its lead out to as many as eight points, 29-21, following a McBorrough layup at the 4:55 mark and held a seven-point, 36-29, advantage at the half.

• The Corsairs gained the lead, 38-36, following a sophomore forward Shaelyn Carreiro (Fall River, MA) bucket in the early stages of the second half. The lead shifted eight times in the final seven minutes of the third quarter, but it was the hosts that led, 58-52, going into the final period.

• After three lead changes to begin the fourth quarter, the Anchorwomen hit a cold streak. In the final 5:11 of the game, the Anchorwomen's only basket came on a senior guard Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, MA) foul shot with one second left on the clock.  

• Senior forward Fataya Larry (Brooklyn, MA) chipped in with a 12-point, 10-rebound, double-double. Freshman guard Antonia Corsinetti (Johnston, RI) added 11 points. Gauvin finished with six points, six boards and handed out four assists.

• UMD sophomore guard Jordan Moretti (Johnston, RI) led all scorers with 23 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists. Senior guard Ashley Brown (New Bedford, MA) registered a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards.

BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 39 percent (26-for-66) from the field, 39 percent (7-for-18) from three-point field range and 43 percent (3-for-7) from the foul line.

• UMD shot 42 percent (26-for-62) from the field, 60 percent (6-for-10) from three-point range, and 88 percent (14-for-16) from the foul line.

• RIC held a slight advantage on the glass, 41-38.

• UMD outscored RIC in the paint, 40-30.

WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at Castleton on Saturday, Feb. 1 (5 p.m.).
