Box Score Gorham, Maine—Freshman forward Jamayra Castro (Bellingham, MA) notched 11 points and seven rebounds as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team fell at Southern Maine, 57-50, in a Little East Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC sophomore guard Sophia Guerrier (Waltham, MA) had nine points, six rebounds and two steals.
• Junior guard Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, MA) added eight points, seven assists, three steals and two assists, while freshman forward Willcia McBorrough (Providence, RI) tallied seven points and a game-high 13 boards in the setback for the Anchorwomen.
• Southern Maine was led by senior Kimberly Howrigan (Fairfield, VT) with 12 points and five rebounds.
• USM freshman center Victoria Harris (Altus, OK) had 10 points and three rebounds, while junior guard Jackie Luckhardt (Londonderry, NH) contributed 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds in the win.
• Southern Maine took control early and went up, 10-2, after a pair of free throws from Howrigan with 3:04 left in the first quarter. USM held the 18-12 advantage at the first intermission.
• RIC climbed back to knot the game at 23-23 on a three-pointer from Gauvin with 4:32 left in the first half.
• The two teams then traded baskets with the scored knotted, 27-27, heading into the locker room at halftime.
• It was a back and forth affair throughout the early stages of the third quarter with RIC trailing, 33-32, after a layup from McBorough with 3:20 left in the quarter. Southern Maine then closed the quarter on a 6-0 run to hold the 39-32 advantage after three quarters of play.
• The Huskies pushed it to a double digit advantage when a jumper from Harris put the score at, 43-32, with 7:41 left in the contest. RIC cut the lead down to just two points late in the game after a free throw from Guerrier made it, 47-45, with 3:12 on the clock. That would be as close as the Anchorwomen would get, however, as Southern Maine held on for the victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
• The Anchorwomen shot 30.3 percent (20-for-66) from the field, 20.0 percent (5-for-25) from three-point range and 62.5 percent (5-for-8) from the free throw line.
• Southern Maine shot 43.8 percent (21-for-48) from the field, 16.7 percent (1-for-6) from the three-point line and 87.5 percent (14-for-16) from the free throw line.
• RIC outrebounded Southern Maine by a 48-29 margin.
