Margaret McCaffrey joins the athletic department staff as the graphic design and digital media intern for the 2019-20 academic year.
McCaffrey received Rhode Island College’s Helen M. Murphy Award, signifying her as RIC’s top senior female student-athlete, in May, 2019.
She helped the women’s outdoor track and field team capture two Little East Conference Championships (2019, ’18), while also helping the Anchorwomen claim one LEC indoor track & field title (2019), during her career.
In outdoor track & field, McCaffrey holds RIC records in the 800m (2:16.64), 1,500m (4:48.68) and the 3,000m steeplechase (11:43.39). She also was a member of RIC’s best-ever 4x800m relay time (10:21.58).
As a senior in 2019, McCaffrey finished in 21st place in the preliminaries of the 800m (2:18.66) at the 2019 NCAA Div. III Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. She also won the N.E. Alliance Championship in the 800m (2:24.28) on April 27 and earned All-New England honors with a sixth place finish in the 800m (2:13.96) at the N.E. Div. III Championship on May 4.
As a junior in 2018, she finished 23rd in the 800m (2:20.34) at the N.E. Championship on May 5. McCaffrey won a pair of LEC Championships at the Alliance Championship on April 28, finishing second in the Alliance and first in the LEC in both the 800m (2:23.86) and the 3,000m steeplechase (11:55.77).
As a sophomore in 2017, she earned N.E. Alliance honors and was the Little East Champion with a first place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase (12:23.60) at the Alliance Championship on April 29.
In indoor track & field, McCaffrey holds the program records in both the 800m (2:15.66) and the mile (5:18.90).
As a senior in 2018-19, McCaffrey registered a fourth place finish (2:18.48) in her heat of the 800m preliminaries at the 2019 NCAA Div. III Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship on March 9. McCaffrey notched a 12th place finish in the 800m (2:21.93) at the N.E. Championship on Feb. 23. She earned N.E. Alliance honors in two events at the Alliance Championship on Feb. 16. McCaffrey captured the Alliance and Little East Championship in the 800m (2:24.54). She also placed third in the mile (5:18.90), establishing a new program record in that event. McCaffrey finished fourth as part of the 4x800m relay (10:45.30).
As a sophomore in 2016-17, she finished fifth in the 1,000m (3:09.19) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 17. McCaffrey earned N.E. Alliance honors with a fifth place finish in the 1,000m (3:11.86) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11.
McCaffrey ran three seasons of cross country for RIC, highlighted by a second place finish at the 2018 Little East Women’s Cross Country Championship where the Anchorwomen placed third overall.
McCaffrey played one season of women’s basketball as a junior in 2017-18. She played in 23 games, starting three of them. She averaged 5.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. McCaffrey had a season-high 13 points and 10 rebounds vs. Plymouth State on Jan. 13. She dished out four assists on three occasions and swiped four steals vs. UMass Dartmouth on Jan. 24.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Rhode Island College in 2019.
