Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College freshman outside hitter Amelia Murphy (North Attleboro, MA) was named the Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week for her performance in a 2-1 week for the Anchorwomen.
Murphy played in 11 sets in three matches, registering a .216 (33-14-88) hitting percentage to go along with 33 kills, two aces and 14 digs. She posted 13 kills and made six digs in a 3-1 loss vs. Worcester State on Sept. 4. Murphy had eight kills and seven digs in a 3-0 win at Salem State on Sept. 6. She posted 12 kills and hit .526 in a 3-0 victory over Bridgewater State on Sept. 8.
For the season, she has played in 20 sets in six matches. Murphy has registered a .131 hitting percentage (53-32-160) to go along with 53 kills and 15 digs.
Head Coach Sherri Heard’s team is currently 3-3 overall. In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Smith on Thursday, Sept. 13 (7 p.m.).
