Eleni Grammas Wins Two Events at RIC Invitational

Providence, R.I.-- Senior Eleni Grammas (Cranston, RI) won a pair of events as the Rhode Island College women's track & field team hosted the second annual RIC Invitational at the Providence Career & Technical Academy (PCTA) on Saturday. 

THE BASICS
• It was an individual meet with no team scoring.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Eleni Grammas notched a first place finish in both the 60m (8.04) and the 200m (26.99). She also had the second leg of the first place 4x200m relay (1:45.74) and was the anchor leg for the second place 4x400m relay (4:20.16).

• Senior Margaret McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI) won the 800m (2:23.68) and had the third leg of the third place 4x800m relay (10:29.80).

• Junior Oluwafunmibi Yusuff (Providence, RI) finished first in the weight throw (16.33m) and sixth in the shot (10.68m).

• Freshman Georgerinna Farley (Providence, RI) recorded a fifth place finish in the weight throw (13.70m) and was 10th in the shot (9.70m).

• Senior Nicole Grammas (Cranston, RI) won the 600m (1:46.35) and was eighth in the 200m (28.62). She also ran the third leg of the first place 4x200m relay (1:45.74) and had the lead leg of the 4x400m relay (4:20.16) that notched a second place finish.

• Junior Emma Landroche (Warwick, RI) won the long jump (5.29m), placed third in the triple jump (10.46m) and was sixth in the 200m (28.39). She also had the anchor leg of the first place 4x00m relay (1:45.74) and ran the second leg of the second place 4x400m relay (4:20.16).

• Sophomore Alexandria Montagano (Johnston, RI) recorded a sixth place finish in the high jump (1.45m), while freshman Stevanna Bowhile (Worcester, MA) notched a fifth place finish in the triple jump (9.99m).

• Sophomore Shayna Cousineau (Cranston, RI) placed eighth in the 3,000m (11:24.59) and also had the anchor leg of the third place 4x800m relay (10:29.80).

• Freshman Madisen Martin (Marion, MA) notched a third place finish in the 1,000m (3:16.30) and ran the lead leg of the third place 4x800m relay (10:29.80).

• Junior Jacklyn Xavier (Cumberland, RI) posted a fourth place finish in the 60m (8.21) and finished seventh in the 400m (1:05.64).

• Freshman Trinity Hayes (Providence, RI) recorded a second place finish in the 400m (1:00.73) and took fifth place in the 60m (8.32). She had the lead leg of the first place 4x200m relay (1:45.74) and ran the third leg of the first place 4x400m relay (4:20.16). 

• Sophomore Jasmine Gallo Fusco (Warwick, RI) took second in the weight throw (15.52m), while sophomore Melissa Mejia (Providence, RI) finished third in the same event (14.68m). 

WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 12 (12:30 p.m.).
