The Rhode Island College women's tennis team posted a commanding, 9-0, win over Lesley to open the 2017 season on Friday night.
The Anchorwomen swept all three doubles matches to race out to a 3-0 advantage in the match. The No. 1 doubles team of senior Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA) and freshman Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, RI) notched an 8-0 win over the Lesley tandem of sophomore Maddie Abbott (Portland, ME) and junior Jessica Russo (Watertown, MA).
At the second doubles spot, RIC junior Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, RI)and freshman Laurel Ten Eyck (Warwick, RI) registered an 8-2 victory against senior Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, MA) and freshman Rachel Mingingham.
RIC freshmen Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, MA) and Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, RI) posted an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles against sophomores Sara Stanton (Manchester, MA) and Tea Ryder (Gloucester, MA) to finish the sweep in doubles play for the Anchorwomen.
Reilly registered a perfect (6-0, 6-0) win over Abbott at No. 1 singles. Zangari recorded a (6-1, 6-0) victory over Pereira at No. 2 singles. Braganca picked up her second victory on the day at No. 3 singles with a (6-2, 6-0) win over Russo.
Senior Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) defeated Stanton (6-1, 6-0) at No. 4 singles. Freshman Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, RI) downed Ryder (6-0, 6-0) at No. 5 singles and classmate Serena Bobola (Cranston, RI) defeated freshman Mary Dulling (6-0, 6-0) at No. 6 singles.
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Salve Regina on Saturday, Sept. 2 (Noon).
