ANCHORWOMEN FALL AT WESTERN CONNECTICUT

Danbury, Conn.-Senior Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) picked up three victories, but it wouldn't be enough as the Rhode Island College women's swimming team fell at Western Connecticut, 147-86, on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Curran took first place in the 200-yard freestyle (2:21.00), 100-yard butterfly (1:17.48) and  the 200-yard IM (2:37.22). She also swam the anchor leg of the first place 200-yard freestyle relay (2:01.80).

• Junior Madison Lane (Barrington, RI) finished in second place in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (14:02.23) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:10.49) and placed third in the 500-yard freestyle (7:24.22). Lane also swam the second leg of the first place 200-yard freestyle relay (2:01.80).

• Junior Courtney Payne (Waterford, CT) finished in second place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:29.71) and was third in both the 50-yard breaststroke (40.71) and the 200-yard IM (3:16.04). She also swam the third leg of the second place 200-yard medley relay (2:32.15).

• Sophomore Vanessa Dao (Revere, MA) recorded a second place finish in the 50-yard backstroke (34.52), placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:19.70) and was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (30.36).  She also swam the third leg of the first place 200-yard freestyle relay (2:01.80).

• Senior Rachel Soria (Pawtucket, RI) finished in second place in the 50-yard butterfly (36.86) and took fourth place in both the 50-yard backstroke (35.86) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:23.89).  Soria swam the lead leg of the second place 200-yard medley relay (2:32.15).

• Freshman Emily Butterfield (Cranston, RI) notched a fourth place finish in both the 50-yard backstroke (42.18) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:32.05. Butterfield also swam the lead leg of the first place 200-yard freestyle relay (2:01.80) and had the third leg of the second place 200-yard medley relay (2:32.15).

• RIC freshman Alexis Lewis (North Kingstown, RI) was fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (17:51.57) and took fifth in both the 100-yard freestyle (1:30.14) and the 500-yard freestyle (8:39.05). She also swam the anchor leg of the second place 200-yard medley relay (2:32.15) for the Anchorwomen.
