WOMEN'S SWIMMING STARTS OFF 2018 WITH SPLIT AT HUSSON TRI-MEET

Bangor, Maine-Senior Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) recorded three victories as the Rhode Island College women's swimming team split a double dual meet hosted by Husson on Friday evening. RIC defeated Maine Maritime, 134.0-62.0, and dropped a, 148.0-92.0, decision against Husson.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Curran took first place in 100-yard butterfly (1:10.08), the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.36) and  the 100-yard IM (1:11.49). She also swam the third leg of the second place 200-yard medley relay (2:19.66).

• Junior Madison Lane (Barrington, RI) finished in first place in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (14:11.40) and the 500-yard freestyle (6:46.63). Lane also swam the lead leg of the third place 200-yard freestyle relay (2:21.29)

• RIC sophomore Vanessa Dao (Revere, MA) recorded three second place finishes for the evening. She took second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:27.52), the 50-yard freestyle (29.28) and  the 100-yard backstroke (1:16.11). She also swam the anchor leg of the second place 200-yard medley relay (2:19.66).

• Senior Rachel Soria (Pawtucket, RI) notched a second place finish in the 50-yard backstroke (36.16) and finished in third place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:19.16). She also swam the lead leg of the second place 200-yard medley relay (2:19.66).

• Freshman Emily Butterfield (Cranston, RI) finished first in the 500-yard freestyle (6:25.84). Butterfield also swam the second leg of the second place 200-yard medley relay (2:19.66) and the anchor leg of the third place 200-yard freestyle relay (2:21.29) for the Anchorwomen.

• RIC freshman Alexis Lewis (North Kingstown, RI) finished third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (18:39.75), took fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (9:13.08) and swam the second leg of the third place 200-yard freestyle relay (2:21.29).

• Freshman Makeila Robles (Willimantic, CT) took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:52.11), the 100-yard freestyle (1:18.01) and the 500-yard freestyle (9:13.08). She also swam the third leg of the third place 200-yard freestyle relay (2:21.29).

• In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Western Connecticut on Friday, Jan. 19 (6 p.m.).
