Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College senior forward Brittany DeGrooth (Westerly, RI) and sophomore back Vanessa Costa (Rocky Point, NY) were named All-Little East for their respective performances in women’s soccer during the 2018 season.
DeGrooth was named the Little East Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Little East. She played in 18 games, starting all of them. DeGrooth had 17 goals and eight assists for 42 points. DeGrooth scored four times in RIC’s, 5-1, win at Fitchburg State on Oct. 24 to become the program’s all-time leader with 41 career goals. It brought her season total to 17, which equaled the RIC record for goals in a season. Three of her goals were game-winners for the Anchorwomen. Her 42 points this season tied for the second-highest single season total in RIC history. DeGrooth is second all-time at RIC with 98 career points. She was a Second Team All-LEC selection as a junior in 2017.
Costa was named Second Team All-Little East. She played 18 games, starting all of them, as part of RIC’s defensive corps.
Head Coach Christina Pirri’s team finished the season with a 7-10-1 overall record and a 2-5-1 (seventh place) mark in the Little East Conference.
