Wilkes-Barre, Pa..— Nine members of the Rhode Island College wrestling team competed at the Wilkes Open on Saturday as the Anchormen earned a 17th place finish (34 teams).
The Anchormen notched 20.0 points, while the unattached team from Rutgers took first place with 129.0 points. The open style tournament featured some of the top wrestlers from the Northeast region.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC junior Daniel Murray (Bay Shore, NY) went 2-2 at 125 lbs., which in included a pin in the consolation round quarterfinals, to finish in sixth place for the tournament.
• Senior Michael Gallagher (Saunderstown, RI) notched a sixth place finish at 184 lbs., posting a 3-2 record along the way for the Anchormen. Gallagher defeated several Div. I wrestlers at the tourney.
• Sophomore Davante Rogers (Providence, RI) registered an 0-2 record at 149 lbs., while freshman Nathan Stemple (Marlborough, MA) was 0-2 at 174 lbs., for the Anchormen.
• RIC junior Jordan Zanni (North Providence, RI) rounded out the Anchormen wrestlers, going 1-2 at 285 lbs.
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Ursinus for the North/South Duals on Saturday, Jan. 5 (9:30 a.m.)
