Providence, R.I.—The Rhode Island College wrestling team will open the 2018-19 season at Ithaca’s Bomber Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3.
Senior Mike Gallagher (Saunderstown, RI) is ranked No. 6 in the nation at 184 lbs. as of the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Preseason Poll. The 184 lbs. weight class is shaping up to be the toughest class in the region with three nationally-ranked grapplers from New England. Gallagher will compete at the Bomber Invitational at 197 lbs. as he progresses his weight down.
Both Gallagher and classmate 141 lbs. Stephen Masi (Cumberland, RI) are ranked No. 3 in the region heading into the ’18-19 campaign. Both wrestlers have earned All-Northeast Region honors during their respective careers. Masi at 133 lbs. as a sophomore in 2016 and Gallagher was an NCAA Div. III National Championship qualifier and a regional finalist in 2017.
The duo is expected to be among the team’s top performers as Head Coach Jay Jones’ team is hoping for a much-improved effort this winter.
