DESTIN BIBEMI TAKES HOME 400M CROWN AS MEN'S TRACK & FIELD FINISHES SIXTH AT LITTLE EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS

Bridgewater, Mass.--Junior Destin Bibemi (Providence, RI) won the 400m (50.23) to lead the Rhode Island College men's track and field team at the 2018 New England Alliance Championship, hosted by Bridgewater State on Saturday afternoon.

 

THE BASICS

• The Anchormen finished in sixth place (seven teams) in the Little East Conference standings with 59.0 points. Southern Maine won the LEC crown with a team score of 145.0. RIC finished ninth (12 teams) in the Alliance with a team score of 43.0. Bridgewater State won the Alliance Championship with a team score of 166.0.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Bibemi finished sixth overall in the 400m to earn N.E. Alliance honors. He also finished fifth as part of the 4x100m relay (43.37) and eighth as part of the 4x400m (3:31.89).

• Senior Shamar Spruill (Providence, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors in a pair of events. He notched a second place finish in the hammer (52.84m) and finished third in the discus (43.93m). He also registered an 18th place (sixth place in the LEC) finish in the shot (11.46m).

• Senior Matthew Charles (North Providence, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors in the 200m with a sixth place finish (22.74). He also finished 11th in the 100m, fifth as part of the 4x100m relay (43.37) and eighth as part of the 4x400m (3:31.89).

• Junior Newell Roberts (Providence, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors with a second place finish in the pole vault (4.25m).

• Senior Jake Brierly (Lincoln, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors with a fourth place finish in the hammer (49.15). Sophomore Joseph Palazzo (Providence, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors with a sixth place finish in the same event (45.53).

 

WHAT'S NEXT

• In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2018 New England Div. III Championships hosted by MIT on Saturday, May 5.
