SPRUILL WINS THE HAMMER AT MIT'S SEAN COLLIER INVITATIONAL

Cambridge, Mass.—Senior Shamar Spruill (Providence, RI) won the hammer throw and recorded two other top-10 finishes as the Rhode Island College men's track & field team competed at MIT's Sean Collier Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

 

THE BASICS

• There was no team score at the event that featured some of the top performers in the NCAA Div. III ranks.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Spruill won the hammer (52.09m), finished third in the discus (44.75m) and was eighth fin the shot (11.76m).

• Junior Destin Bibemi (Providence, RI) captured first place in the 400m (50.86m).

• Senior Vincent Santos (Narragansett, RI) won the 110m hurdles (15.55) seventh place finish in the 400m hurdles (57.58).

• Senior Matthew Charles (North Providence, RI) posted a third place finish in the 200m (22.65) and notched a fourth place finish in the 100m (11.41).

• Sophomore Jephte Wagnac (Providence, RI) notched a second place finish in the 400m hurdles (57.40).

• Freshman Devin Greene (Providence, RI) finished in 28th place in the 100m (12.21) and had a 32nd place finish in the 200m (24.92).

• Freshman Raffaelo Manzo (Slatersville, RI) finished seventh in the 1,500m (4:21.60).

• Junior Newell Roberts (Providence, RI) took home fourth place in the pole vault (4.25m).

• Freshman Cam Menefee (Bridgeport, CT) recorded a 12th place finish in the triple jump (11.42m), was 15th in the 400m (50.86) and finished 17th in the long jump (5.37m).

• Senior Jake Brierly (Lincoln, RI) registered a fourth place finish in the hammer (48.79).

• Senior Seth Larbi (Pawtucket, RI) finished sixth in the hammer (48.79m), 11th in the shot (11.14m) and 15th on the discus (30.06m).

• Sophomore Joseph Palazzo (Providence, RI) registered a seventh place finish in the hammer (41.96m), while freshman Jonathan LeJeune (Warwick, RI) finished in eighth place in the hammer (39.34m).

• Junior Adam Stomberg (West Greenwich, RI) finished 13th in the hammer (35.48m) and finished in 14th place in the javelin (35.66m).

• In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2018 N.E. Alliance Championships, hosted by Bridgewater State on Saturday, April 28.
