Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College men's indoor track & field team competed at the 2018 New England Alliance Championships, hosted by RIC at the Providence Career & Technical Academy (PCTA) on Saturday.

 

THE BASICS

The Anchormen finished ninth (11 teams) in the Alliance with 32.0 points. Bridgewater State won the meet with a score of 138.50. RIC finished fifth (seven teams) in the Little East Conference with a score of 50.0.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Freshman Anthony Shepard (Wakefield, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors with a first place finish in the long jump (7.04m; new program record). Shepard also took 11th in the triple jump (12.69m) and was 15th (1.83m) in the high jump.

• Sophomore Jephte Wagnac (Providence, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors with a third place finish in the 600m (1:22.23). He also was a member of the third place (overall) and first place in the Little East 4x200m relay (1:32.51). He also finished in 17th place in the triple jump (12.09m) and ran the third leg of the 4x400m relay (3:33.59) that placed seventh overall.

• Senior Jake Brierly (Lincoln, RI) garnered N.E. Alliance accolades with a third place finish in the weight throw (16.18m).

• Senior Matthew Charles (North Providence, RI) ran the lead leg of the third place (overall) and first place in the Little East 4x200m relay (1:32.51). He also ran the anchor leg of the seventh place 4x400m relay (3:33.59) and had a 16th place finish in the 200m (23.37).

• Junior Destin Bibemi (Providence, RI)  ran the third leg of the third place (overall) and first place in the Little East 4x200m relay (1:32.51). He also had the lead leg of the seventh place 4x400m relay (3:33.59) and placed 11th in the 400m (53.25) for the Anchormen.

• Senior Vincent Santos (Narragansett, RI) had the anchor leg of the third place (overall) and first place in the Little East 4x200m relay (1:32.51). He also ran the second leg of the seventh place 4x400m relay (3:33.59) and was in seventh place in the 60m hurdles (8.83).

• Sophomore Joe Palazzo (Providence, RI) recorded a 13th place finish in the weight throw (12.70m).

• Freshman Raffaelo Manzo (Slatersville, RI) finished in 14th place in the 1,000m (2:45.67).

• RIC freshman Dylan Brobisky (West Warwick, RI) notched a 22nd place finish in the 600m (1:49.28).

 

WHAT'S NEXT

• In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Middlebury for the N.E. Division III Championship on Saturday, Feb. 17 (10 a.m.).
